An upper Area Court III sitting in Kaswan Nama, Jos, on Thursday sentenced a 25-year-old athlete, David Barnabas to two years in prison for stealing an HP Laptop valued at N125,000 and a wallet containing N15,000.
The Judge, Yahaya Mohammed, convicted Barnabas for trespass and stealing.
Mohammed, however, gave him an option to pay a fine of N15,000 fine or one year imprisonment for trespass and two years or N25,000 fine for theft
He said that the judgment would serve as deterrent to those who would want to indulge in such acts.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Ibrahim Gowat, told the court that the case was reported on April 10, at the Laranto Police Station by one Nabsa Solomon of ECWA Staff Jos, who is the complainant.
Gowat said that the convict stole the laptop and wallet belonging to the complainant who forgot to lock his car.
The convicted had pleaded guilty to the offence which the prosecutor said contravened the provisions of sections 348 and 288 of Plateau State Penal Code Law. (NAN)
