Five persons yesterday were confirmed dead, while 19 sustained various degrees of injuries in road crashes that occurred in Ogun State.
Our correspondent learnt a lone accident involving a Mazda 200 marked DDA72 XA killed two and injured 10 when it crashed at Kara junction along Lagos – Ibadan expressway.
Another accident involving a Volkswagen Golf marked AKD617VB and an unregistered Bajaj motorbike killed two on the Ijebu – Igbo road along Oru/Ijebu – Igbo road.
A report of Day 6 Easter Special Patrol Operations by the state command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), made available to Eko Trust by Sector Commander, Clement Oladele, said all the five accidents occurred on Monday.
According to the report, 52 people were involved in the various accidents, leaving five dead, while 19 were injured.
Oladele said road corridors in the state have started experiencing high “but flowing traffic, with most motorists that travelled for the Easter public holidays returning.”
He said: “One driver who drove against traffic on the Lagos – Ibadan Expressway, by taking advantage of a temporary slowed traffic when a crash was being attended to by officers of the FRSC. The vehicle was apprehended for driving against traffic and the driver was issued a notice of offence ticket for dangerous driving with a fine of N50,000 and vehicle also impounded at FRSC base.
“The Sector Commander informed motorists to note that the areas where diversions were removed by the construction company on the Lagos – Ibadan Expressway , were temporarily removed to ease traffic and the barricades would be replaced from today by the construction company, Julius Berger PLC. The Sector Commander advised motorists to maintain the stipulated 50km per hour maximum speed limit at construction zones, as well as refrained from overtaking till they are clearly out of construction zones, as violators are liable to prosecution.”
