‘Insecurity stalling Ogoni cleanup’

The project coordinator of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project, Marvin Dekil, says insecurity in many Ogoni communities  is delaying the ongoing cleanup exercise in the land.

Speaking yesterday during a stakeholders’ meeting in both Eleme and Bori, he said many contractors engaged by the agency could not move to the site due to insecurity.

Earlier, the Minister of Environment, Suleiman Hassan Zarima, reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to cleaning up of the polluted sites in Ogoni land.
