Ansar-Ud-Deen tasks governments on insecurity

Following the unending killings, kidnappings and amongst rising insecurity across the country, the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria (ADSN) has urged the federal, state and local governments to act decisively instead of pretending to be acting.

President of the society, Dr. Olufemi Okunnu (SAN), made the plea yesterday in Abuja, at a briefing preceding the 9th triennial conference of the society coming up tomorrow in Abuja, where new National Executive Committee members are expected to emerge.

Mr. Okunnu who was a federal commissioner for works and housing at age 34 under former Yakubu Gowon’s regime said equity is also lacking in the country.

He urged both Muslims and Christians to always embrace peace and tolerate one another, and for the governments to tackle the security situation headlong.

“The federal, state and local governments are not doing enough to bring people of different faith together, especially Christians and Muslims. Governments are not doing enough about education. I have strong believe that governments should positively inter-vain in education.

“Governments have failed Nigerians. The Muslim and Christian child should be educated. We need more primary and secondary schools. Today, Nigeria is short of justice. We are far from been citizens of one country. Justice is also slow. Some people buy justice while others do not get it. People are not been treated equitably. Nigerians are not at peace with one another,” he said.
