Bauchi varsity matriculates 5,896 students

Bauchi State University, Gadau (BASUG) on Thursday matriculated 5,896 students for the 2018/2019 academic session.

The matriculation of the new students admitted into the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences was held at a ceremony at the Yuli campus of the university on Thursday.

In his address, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Auwalu Uba, explained that 16,908 candidates applied for admissions out of which 6,353 were admitted into the various programmes across the three operational campuses at Itas/Gadau, Misau and Bauchi.

He however disclosed that, out of the 6,353 students who were admitted, 5,896 have registered for the various courses offered to them.

He also enjoined them to shun all forms of social vices such as cultism, sexual misbehaviour, indecent dressing, examination malpractices, thuggery, fraudulent acts and other activities to avoid expulsion.

“Matriculation confers on the participating students, full membership of the institution having fulfilled all necessary requirements. Every matriculated student is entitled to all rights and privileges recognized by the university which include right to access information in the library and enjoyment of all available teaching and learning facilities in the university,” he said.

Delivering a paper titled: “Academic Culture Processes and Procedures Guiding Studentship in the University System,” the Guest Speaker, Alhaji Aminu Tukur informed the students that people who have problems like ill-health, financial difficulties could defer their admissions on payment of non-refundable fees.

He added that, students can also have their courses changed where they could not register due to deficiency, withdrawal on academic ground and interdisciplinary transfer due to low performance.
