The member representing Ajeromi/Ifelodun Federal Constituency of Lagos state, Rita Orji, has asked the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) to declare the results of the February 23 National Assembly election in the area, as earlier directed by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.
Orji, who was the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in that election, stated this in Abuja on Tuesday, while briefing newsmen.
The lawmaker explained that after INEC stalled the electoral process in the Constituency, a Federal Court in Abuja had ordered the electoral body to release all collated results in the area, which showed her leading with over 11,000 votes.
According to her, results from eight out of the 11 wards in the constituency, so declared that she was leading with over 11,000 votes.
She expressed surprise that instead of complying with the court order, INEC has scheduled a stakeholders’ meeting in the constituency, preparatory to holding a supplementary poll, which she argued was against the court order.
Orji, while accusing INEC of doing the bidding of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said the plan to hold a supplementary election in Ajeromi/Ifelodun Federal Constituency was premeditated and illegal.
“The court ruled that INEC should declare the result polling unit by poling based on the election done on February 23, 2019.
“The court did not say hold a supplementary election, which is the desperation of APC to subvert the will of the people,” the lawmaker said.
