Imo Assembly recalls suspended lawmakers six months after

Six months after they were suspended, five lawmakers of the Imo state House of Assembly have been recalled.

The lawmakers were in October 2018 suspended by their colleagues for what was described as “unparliamentary conducts.”

The legislators were recalled in a plenary on Tuesday which was presided over by the Speaker, Acho Ihim.

They are Chiji Collins (Isiala Mbano), Uche Oguwuike (Ikeduru), Ifeanyi Nnataraonye (Mbaitoli), Donatus Onuigwe (Oru West) and Nkenna Nzeruo (Oru West).

Ihim, who announced the development, said the recalled lawmakers were invited for an interaction during an executive session.

It will be recalled that a High Court on November 5, 2018, quashed the suspension of four of the five suspended members.

The court, in quashing the suspension, had described the action as unlawful and not known by the constitution.

The presiding justice, Goddy Anunihu, had jointly awarded the applicants the sum of N8million in damages and N100,000 in legal fees.

The jurist directed the Speaker, who was the first respondent, to pay the applicants their salaries, allowances and emoluments for the period they were under suspension.
