TThe Jigawa State Government is working on modalities to review the laws governing  revenue generation with a view to increasing its internally generated revenue from N10bn to N20bn annually.

The chairman of the state’s Internal Revenue Board, Ibrahim Gumel, disclosed this to Daily Trust yesterday.

“The present laws governing internally generated revenue in the state are obsolete. Some of these laws were inherited from old Kano State while others were even pre-independence tax collection laws. They need to be reviewed because they are not in conformity with the present economic realities.

“The new law will harmonize the revenue laws governing both the state and local government councils in the state,” he said.
