El-Rufai visits victims of mass wedding attack in Birnin Gwari

Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Monday visited the victims of the mass wedding attack at Kakangi village of Birnin Gwari area of Kaduna state.

The governor ‎visit followed last Saturday’s armed bandits attack on the community which claimed several lives including two policemen. Among the victims of the attack were also children.

A source, who craved anonymity, in Birnin Gwari town told Daily Trust that the governor accompanied by top government officials arrived the town around 10:30am and went straight to Kankangi village to sympathise with the people of the town.

“Yes, the governor visited Kakangi village where the bandits attacked people attending mass wedding on Saturday. He sympathised with the people and assured them of government’s commitment to security in the area,” the source said.

Daily Trust reporter further gathered that places visited by the governor include Sarkin Yaki Primary School which served as IDPs centre in Birnin Gwari town; the General Hospital in Birnin Gwari where he condoled with the injured victims.

“The governor was also at a lodge used as Air Force temporary ‎site in the town before moving to the Emir’s palace to condole with him on the attacked and assured him that the state government will do all it can to improve security in the area,” he said.

‎Daily Trust also learnt that the governor left the town around 2:00pm ‎.

It will be recalled that the Kaduna state Police Command in its reaction to the attack said it also killed three of the bandits.

Also, armed bandits have been terrorising Birnin Gwari local government area of the state despite government’s effort at tackling the killings of innocent rural dwellers.
