Train rams into trailer at railway crossing in Jigawa

A train has rammed into a trailer at a railway crossing in Birniwa local government area of Jigawa state, Daily Trust gathered.

The accident which occurred at the early hours of Tuesday left the driver of the trailer with some minor injuries.

A witness told this reporter that the train was coming from Kano enroute Nguru in Yobe state.

The train, which was going to Nguru for cattle haulage, was reported to have hit the trailer towards the side of its tail body while the trailer was manoeuvring to cross the railway line at the railway crossing that intersected the Hadejia/Nguru road.

The trailer was also said to be on its way to Nguru from Hadejia for haulage of some cargoes.

“The accident occurred at around 5:00am. Every Tuesdays the train goes to Nguru from Kano for transporting cattle. We heard the sound of the train’s horn while approaching the railway crossing. The driver of the trailer probably thought he could pass the railway crossing before the train arrives but he miscalculated.”
