NGGW to execute N3.1bn projects soon – Dr Hassan

The Director General of National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW), Dr. Bukar Hassan, has disclosed that the agency has received a total of N3.1 billion from the Ecological Fund Office which was approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Dr Hassan who stated this, yesterday, in Abuja during a visit by the chairman, House Committee on Environment and Habitat, Obinna Chidoka and other members of the committee to the agency, said 15 per cent of all resources accruable to the Federal Government was approved to come to the agency every month.

He said they have developed a work plan for 2019 on some projects which will kick off as soon as they got the necessary endorsement.

The director general, while answering questions by members of the National Assembly on why the process of the Great Green Wall was slow, said the process appeared slow due to some activities that held them down.

He explained that they had recorded zero performance in some capital projects due to lack of fund and that money may not be available at a time they want to execute some projects especially those that are time bound.

Speaking, Aishatu Dukku, a member of the committee ask why the clean cook stove initiative, is failing instead of serving women in the rural communities.

In his response, Dr Hassan said the stoves were there but contract was cancelled. He said the stoves were now court exhibit because the case is in court.

On his part, Chidoka commended the agency, saying, the National Assembly will support them in anything they will do for the benefit of Nigerians.

He said they will be ready to receive them for their budget defence.
