The Governing Council of Federal University Dutsinma has approved the appointment of Prof. Adamu Nchama Baba-Kutigi as the new Acting Vice Chancellor of the university.
The approval of the appointment of the New Acting Vice Chancellor followed his nomination by the Senate of the university at its 73rd Emergency meeting held on Wednesday 20th March, 2019.
The Acting Director Public Relations and protocols of the University, Habibu Garba Matazu in a statement, said the appointment of the new Acting Vice Chancellor would take effect from March 27, 2019.
The appointment, he said, was line with section 5 sub-sections 14 of the Universities Miscellaneous provisions, Amendment Act, 2003.
He said the appointment was for a maximum of six months.
“The appointment would subsist only up to the time the University Authority is able to appoint a substantive Vice Chancellor provided the time is within the period from 27th March, to 26th September 2019” he said.
Meanwhile, The Pro-chancellor and Chairman of Council Prof. Marliyya Zayyan and members of the Governing Council of the university have since congratulated the new Acting Vice Chancellor for his new appointment.
Until his new appointment, Prof. Baba-Kutigi was the immediate past Dean, Faculty of Science and former Head, Department of Physics of the University.
Prof. Kutigi, who hails from Kutigi, Lavun Local Government Area of Niger State, was born on 10th June, 1956 and had his early Education at Government Secondary School Eyagi, Bida L.G.A. He obtained Nigerian Certificate in Education ( NCE) at the Teachers College Minna in 1979.
The Academic luminary attended the former University Sokoto, now Usmanu Danfodio University Sokoto, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University Zaria for his Masters and Doctorate degrees in Physics.
He has vast teaching and research experience and also has membership of Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN), Nigerian Institute of Physics (NIP) and Nigerian Association of Teachers of Technology (NATT).
The New Acting Vice Chancellor served as Deputy Director, Centre for Preliminary and Extra Moral Studies and served as a Member Governing Council representing Congregation at Federal University of Technology Minner.
Prof. Kutigi has many publications and attended local and international academic conferences, seminars and workshops with linkages to many research institutes.
