Two male winners in recitation and memorization of the whole Qur’an with eloquence and its sciences, Abdurrahman Bunu from Borno and Yusuf Yahaya from Edo states respectively are to represent Nigeria at the international competition slated for Turkey in May this year.

This is as female winners in the different categories would represent the FCT at the National Quranic completion late this year in Kano State.

This is part of the outcome of the fourth Edition of Qur’anic Recitation Competition, Sunday night, organised by the Islamic Promotion Initiative of Nigeria (IPIN) and the Turkiye Diyanet Foundation of Republic of Turkey at the Abuja National.

The event started last Friday.

While Mallam Bunu came first in the 60 Hizb (segments), he was followed by Ismail Umar from Niger State and Abdulmalik Ahmad from Ogun State who came third.

Also, while Mallam Yahya won the tangeem (melodic mode), Ibrahim M. Ibrahim of Borno State came second and Ajmul Nura Shema of Katsina State came third.

In the female category of recitation, Maimuna Abdurrahman from Abaji Area Council won the five hizb, Aisha Sani, Kuje won the 10 hizb; Fauziyya Shehu AMAC, won the 20 hizb; Halima Muhammad, Gwagwalada won the 40 hizb and Surrayya Muhammad won the 60 hizb.

The IPIN Chairman, Dr. Muhammad Kabir Adam, said the programme was launched four years ago as part of measures to promote the recitation of Qur’an with tajweed (eloquence).

“I can say that there is lot of improvement among the reciters, so much that you would not be able to know who would win and who would not win because almost all of them are perfect. Everyone is doing their best to know the science of the Holy Qur’an,” noted Adam who I also one of the Imams of the National Mosque, Abuja said.

When asked on the performance of the females, he said the female reciters are impressive such that they are even competing favourable in the 60 hizb.

He therefore urged parents to give attention to their children’s Qur’anic learning.

Also an official of the IPIN, Mallam Muhammad Attahir Kafin-Dangi, said that the female winners would represent the FCT in the National competition organised by the Muslim World League and hosted by the Kano Emirate.
