The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the Sokoto governorship election held last Saturday as inconclusive.
INEC’s Returning Officer in the state, Professor Fatima Batul Mukhtar, declared the election inconclusive early Monday morning, saying the cancelled votes is much higher than the winning margin.
According to the final results, PDP won 489,558 votes while APC scored 486,145 votes.
Daily Trust reports that the incumbent governor and candidate of the PDP, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, was slugging it out with Ahmad Aliyu of the APC in the fierce contest.
The number of votes cancelled from across 136 polling units in 22 local government areas was 75,403, according to the INEC’s Returning Officer.
