Groups demand probe of Police killed on election duty

The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, Ogun State chapter, the Grassroots Development Society and Police Community Relations Committee have demanded an investigation into the killing of a Police Corporal, Sunday Idoko, who was shot dead while escorting election results during the Presidential and parliamentary polls in Ogun State.

Idoko, alongside four others, was escorting election results from Ipokia to Ayetoro, headquarters of Yewa North Local Government when some hoodlums, suspected to be political thugs, laid ambush for them and shot at the vehicle severally.

Addressing newsmen in Abeokuta, the groups also demanded that perpetrators of the dastardly act be brought to book for justice.

The groups stated this in a statement jointly signed by Chairman, Ogun Civil Soviety Organisation Coalition, Yinka Folarin; Actng Chairman PCRC, Lawson Michael; Chairman CDHR, Shoyombo Sunday and General Secretary HRGDS ,Akanbi Femi.

Folarin, who read the statement, tagged the “situation appraisal on the State of Security in Ogun State and the Conduct of Security Agencies prior and during the February 23rd 2019 Presidential and National Assembly Elections”, condemned the call for Militarization of the forthcoming Governorship and House of Assembly Elections in the  State.

He said such call was capable of causing voter apathy and may discourage electorate from effective participation.
