INEC reschdules voting in Jigawa

Elections regulator INEC has rescheduled an election in one of the polling units in Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa state.

INEC failed to conduct elections because card readers malfunctioned.

Jigawa state Resident Electoral Commission (REC), Dr. Mahmood Isa, said problems with card readers generated tensions at the polling unit and necessitated the decision to suspend voting in the polling unit.

Dr. Isa, who did not give the name of the polling unit, said details on how the rescheduled elections would be conducted would be made known in due course.

“INEC has the power to reschedule an election exercise within 24 hours. Failure for card reader to function generated some tension at the polling unit. When it occurs the situation will go out of hand, INEC decides to suspend the election in the area,” he said.
