President Muhammadu Buhari and his wife, Hajiya Aisha have cast their votes at the Sarkin Yara Ward A, Kofa Baru polling unit (003), Gidan Niyam in Daura local government area of Katsina state.
Spotting a blue ‘babanriga’, with cap to match and a pair of black shoes, the president and his wife arrived the polling unit located in Tone, a densely populated area of Daura town around 8:00am.
The president’s residence is located in the Government Reserve Area (GRA) of the town, about five minutes’ drive to the polling unit.
Our correspondent reports that the president and his wife spent only nine minutes to cast their votes.
Daily Trust reports that Aisha Buhari was the first to cast her vote at the polling unit followed by the president.
While Buhari is number 187 on the valid registration list, the wife is number 182. They have since left the polling unit.
An INEC official told our correspondent that a total of 898 voters were registered at the polling unit. In the whole of the president’s ward, a total of 9,242 voters were registered.
In 2015, President Buhari who is seeking a second term in office polled 499 at his polling unit, while former President Goodluck Jonathan got zero vote.
In 2015, Buhari polled overall total of 15.4m votes to defeat former President Jonathan who got 12.8m votes.
The president, after voting, said he is very hopeful of victory.
