The numbers of Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, taking refuge at the Batsari Model Primary school, Katsina, has risen to 2685, the state Emergency Management Agency said.
The IDPs, who are from 18 communities, were 1,300 persons three days ago.
The Executive Secretary of the agency Babangida Nasamu had visited the temporal camp of the IDPs for an on-the-spot assessment, assuring them of government’s readiness to assist them.
Daily Trust reports that since last week, the bandits have been attacking various neighbouring villages in Batsari town, killing people and rustling animals.
Only last night, villages of Madogara and Yasore were attacked while animals and motorcycles of the residents were carted away.
Other villages attacked in the last one week include; Sabon Garin Dunburan, Garin Labo, Kwandatso, Garin Yara, Shigi, Garin Dodo and Dan Tudun Garin Yara.
However, the state Commissioner of Police Sanusi Buba has allayed fears, saying the police were on top of the situation, following redeployment of Armoured Personnel Carrier and other equipment to the area.
