Poll Shift: Don’t Give Up, Atiku urges Youths

Nigerian youths have been urged not to be discouraged by the recent postponement of the general elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

INEC shifted the presidential and National Assembly election from 16th to 23rd February.

Dr. Ahmed Adamu, the Special Adviser to Atiku Abubakar on Youth and Strategy lamented that the postponement is ‘very costly and inconvenient for most of the Nigerian youth’

“Nothing good comes easy. We are about to make a momentous shift as a country and a great mark in the history of our generation. The spirit should not go down by the one-week postponement of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). It has been a long time coming; we have worked and waited for this election, and looking back at what we have sacrificed so far, I am sure we can endure one more week. Let us look forward to what awaits us post Atiku Abubakar victory, which alone can encourage us to bear any challenge along the way,” he said.

He added that the late hour postponement exposed the inefficiency of INEC and further indicated possibility of external influence especially from the ruling party.

“Indicators and opinion polls have shown that the People Democratic Party (PDP) is likely to win this election, and the ruling party is panicking and trying to buy time to manipulate the process. I want to call on Nigerian youth not to give up. We should be reminded that we are the most powerful stakeholders in this election, and we have the powers to avert any evil plan to distort this election. We should remain resolute and vigilant, and ensure only legitimate votes count. The spirit should not die, let us keep the momentum, and resist any evil plan to distort the election. Let us all be law abiding citizens. We may be exuberant, but we should be responsible and ensure peace and decorum no matter the circumstance,” he said.
