Rivers residents express anger over postponement of election

A cross section of residents of Rivers State have expressed anger and disappointment over the postponement of Saturdays Presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission , INEC.

A Port Harcourt resident, Innocent Okoye said the postponement portrays INEC as an inefficient and incompetent organization that cannot conduct a credible election.

He expressed sadness that despite huge sums of money and time committed for the election INEC would take people unaware and postphone the election.

“I am very sad that they have to postpone the election when every Nigerian have prepared and were ready to vote for candidate of their choice. I am particularly not happy over this development.”

Another resident , Paul Ugochukwu said the postponement of the election shows how unprepared INEC was .

He said a serious electoral body would have made all the necessary arrangement to ensure a hitch free exercise saying that the postponement have scuttled the plans of many Nigerians.

“I travelled to my community on Thursday to enable me participate in this exercise only to wake up to hear that the election has been postponed . I have to come back to Port Harcourt. Which ever way they want it I must cast my vote on which ever date they chooses for the election,” he said.

Another respondent, Cyprian Udom said he envisaged the postponement since Wednesday given the haphazard way the electoral materials were distributed.

“I know quite well that INEC is not ready to conduct a free and fair election. As of Friday night sensitive electoral materials have not been dispatched to various INEC offices and centres. So when they announced the postponement it did not come to me as a surprise,” he stated.
