South-West youths disagree with Afenifere, endorse Buhari

Ahead of Saturday’s presidential election, a group of youths from the south-west has rejected the endorsement of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar by the pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere.

The youths speaking under the aegis of South-West Youth Forum (SWYF) however hailed the endorsement of President Muhammadu Buhari by another faction of group led by Pa Ayo Fasanmi.

Daily Trust reports that the Afenifere faction openly threw its weight behind Buhari when he came to campaign in Lagos on Saturday.

The forum at the end of its meeting in Lagos declared that Buhari who is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had fulfilled his 2015 campaign promises and thus deserves re-election.

This was contained in the communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, a copy of which was made available to Daily Trust.

According to the group, the APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu remains a leading voice of Yoruba and his patriotism and forthright leadership remains unparalleled in the present political history.

The communiqué was signed by the Chairman, Prince Foluso Ajimuda, South-West coordinator, Engr. Biola Otun Coker and Secretary, Comrade Adeola Akinjeji.

The group said it is impressed with the performance of Buhari in the areas of security, fighting corruption, improving the economy and the infrastructural development.

It expressed confidence in the Buhari-led government to provide the conducive atmosphere to guarantee free, peaceful and credible elections in the country.

The youths urged well-meaning Nigerians to ignore those they called “anti-democratic forces who are fanning the ember of war and violence.”
