“It is unfortunate that these people have took laws into their hands; they destroyed properties, attacked innocent people and cause mayhem in the state on Sunday. This is unacceptable and we will not tolerate it anymore.

“What happened has happened, but we will thoroughly investigate it and bring the culprits to justice. I want to assure the people of Kano that this kind of lawlessness will not happen in the state under my watch.

“There are laws on ground that are meant to guide us on how to conduct ourselves and we must respect these laws so that we can live in peace with one another. We will not allow the few among us to operate as if there is no law or we are in a jungle.

“We will not leave any stone unturned in the cause of our investigation. The laws that banned brandishing or carrying dangerous weapons are still on course and nobody is above the law.”

Mohammed said it was unfortunate that the Sunday’s incidence happened despite the peace accord signed by political parties, lamenting that if police allowed this to continue, the peace accord would be wasteful.

He warned that elections is not war, rather an opinion and everybody is entitled to his opinion, saying “why will you then take weapons or take drugs while the laws, religion, culture and tradition have forbidden such actions.”

On the menace of drug abuse, the new CP vowed to deal decisively with thugs, drug addicts, dealers and barons, saying the police would not fold its arms watching few individuals destroying the lives of the majority.

“We are ready to go after those that are destroying the lives of our younger generations with drugs and anybody caught in the act will face the wrath of the laws,” he said.
