Customs CG, Hammed Ali, takes Buhari’s re-election campaign to Karamajiji

The Comptroller General (CG) of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Alhaji Hammed Ali, on Wednesday led some volunteers to Karamajiji, a suburb in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to embark on voters’ education and door-to-door campaigns to ensure the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in the coming general elections.

Ali, who is also a national leader of the Buhari Support Organisation (BSO), said the volunteers were in the village to sensitise electorate on how to vote on election days to avoid invalidation of votes and to canvass votes for APC candidates.

The Customs CG, who spoke with journalists, said the BSO was currently training two coordinators from each state of the federation and the FCT to take the party’s campaign message to their localities.

He said voters’ education and door-to-door campaigns were critical to ensure the success of APC candidates in the coming general elections at all levels.

Ali, who said voter education was necessary since about 73 political parties were contesting the presidency. He added that it was a sharp departure from previous elections where we had fewer candidates contesting for the presidency.

He said the volunteers had taken it upon themselves to reach out to communities and educate voters on how to vote, what should to be done, and how they should do it.

“We are doing the practical aspect of that training today, and we expect them to go to their states to replicate the training in their local government areas as well as train our ward representatives. We expect that our members will be out knocking on doors and undertaken this exercise. This visit is first and foremost to familiarise ourselves with the community, but most importantly is for us to do two things.

“We are doing the door-to-door campaign, canvassing for votes for APC presidential candidate and secondly, we are undertaking the voter education which is very important. We will be sensitising the people especially on how they should fold the ballot paper without rendering it invalid, and how to thump print considering the fact that the ballot paper is going to be long,”he said.

Also speaking, Dr Tom Ohikere, member of the BSO Strategic Team, said the organisation would not take anything for granted in ensuring the re-election of President Buhari in the coming elections.

Ohikere, who is also the Deputy National Chairman (North), APC support group and the National Coordinator the Broom Platform said Nigerians should not make the mistake of voting for opposition candidates.

He said re-electing President Buhari is critical to moving the country to the next level of infrastructural and economic development.

Dr Jummai Umar-Ajijuola, one of the volunteers, said the sensitisation was being held simultaneously across the federation.
