Nigeria, 14 others to utilise World Bank’s $3m for West Africa

The 15 countries in the West African Health Organisation, including Nigeria, have agreed to utilise the $3 million expended by the World Bank to improve the accessibility and quality of medicines in the West African region.

The Director-General of WAHO, Prof. Stanley Okolo, said this the weekend during the end of the 5th steering committee meeting of the West African Medicines Regulatory Harmonization Initiative which started on Thursday.

According to him, the countries represented by their National Medicines Regulatory Authorities have agreed to jointly register and regulate medicines produced locally and imported into the region to reduce the time of registration and improving access to medicines as well as ensure better regulatory oversight.

The Director-General of the National Agency for Food Drugs Administration and Control, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, said the goal was to have quality medicine.
