Christians urged to pray over killings in North

The chairman of Lagos state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Apostle Alexander Bamgbola, has said that Christian leaders in the South are not oblivious of happenings in the North, noting such happenings cannot be confronted with a violent approach but with fervent prayers to God.

He said this at a forum organized by E-Life magazine in collaboration with Christian Press Association of Nigeria (CPAN) at the weekend in Lagos.

According to him, prayers for Nigeria is very paramount; saying, no challenge facing the country is insurmountable with prayers. “The situation of Nigeria today requires prayers and that is why we are calling on Christian faithful to continue to pray for the brethren in the North,” he said.

Presenting a paper titled, ‘The untold story of the church in Northern Nigeria’, at the forum, the former commissioner of Justice and Attorney General of Kaduna State, Barrister Mark Jacob raised alarm over what he described as a renewed attempt to Islamize Nigeria, saying the incessant killings in the northern part and middle belt region of the country is part of an orchestral plan to Islamize the country.

According to him, those pushing the agenda are well funded and conscious of their goals.

“All the green lights are there for people to decode but our Southern brothers still consider it untrue. Christians are systemically being eliminated in the North and the greatest disservice Christians in other parts of the country have done is to keep quiet when these injustices are being carried out,” he said.

He also lamented the take-over of schools built by Christian missionaries in the North by government.

Earlier, the convener of the forum who is also the publisher of E-Life magazine, Deacon Bola Adewara appealed to Christian leaders to be united and speak with one voice.

He said, “I was born in Kaduna. Kaduna state and some other parts of the North used to be peaceful with people of all tribes and religions living side by side in unity and love. We celebrated all festivities together irrespective of where we belonged. Now the story has changed,” he lamented.
