A golfer at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital’s (UBTH) Golf Club, Prof Joseph Wazir Erameh, said Daily Trust President Buhari’s tournament has shown that golf is not only for the rich.
Prof Erameh said in an interview during the Daily Trust President Muhammadu Buhari Golf Tournament at the UBTH golf course in Benin.
He said the tournament was very impressive because it has been able to bring out people from Warri, Asaba in Delta state and Onitsha in Anambra state to the tournament.
“People belief that golf is for the rich but in this Daily Trust tournament you can see lots of young golfer playing and they should let people know that golf is not only for the rich . Daily Trust did well by organising the tournament because not many organisations would venture into this kind of corporate social responsibility,” he said.
Prof Erameh described golf as a test of players’ character and morals because one has to score self without inflating the scores.
“If golfer play 10 shots, you have to write 10, and if you write down nine instead 10, you are disqualified and even if other golfers playing with you didn’t say anything, they are watching and counting your steps so it is a test of characters and morals,” Erameh said.
According to him, golf is a game anybody irrespective of age and sex can play, saying that he had trekked about 10 kilometres playing the Daily Trust tournament.
Another golfer from Delta state, Rita Izoje, noted that Daily Trust has given them the opportunity to have fun since the tournament commenced on Saturday.
