Dauda Alhaji Dogara (childhood friend of the ag. IGP)

Family members, neighbours, friends and so many well wishers have been trooping to the Kofar Kaura Community in Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State to the house of Alhaji Muhammadu Liman to rejoice with the family over the appointment of their son, Adamu Mohammed, as the new acting Inspector General of Police (ag. IGP).

The family compound of the acting IGP is not more than 100 metres from the palace of the Emir of Lafia.

His elder sister, Malama Hadiza Muhammad Liman, popularly known as Yaya Babba, said, “My younger brother is a very honest person. He said he wanted to join the police even though his elder brother was a soldier who retired as a captain.”

Yaya Babba said they lost their father when he was a Superintendent of Police (SP) and their mother when he was an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).

She said he was a philanthropist and always took care of the needy, especially orphans and the elderly, in his little ways, and that he recently built about 30 boreholes in different wards in Lafia. She added that youths in Lafia called him Baban Marayu (father of orphans) and that when he came for the third day prayer for the late Emir of Lafia, he pulled a big crowd of youths who were chanting “Sai kayi IG”, meaning we are praying for you to be the next IGP.

His uncle, Muhammad Haladu Sarkim, said, “We are not surprised with the appointment of Adamu Mohammed as the acting IGP and pray that he will prove his worth and be confirmed because he has excelled and served in INTERPOL for seven years.”

His childhood friend, Dauda Alhaji Dogara, who holds the title of Madakin Wazirin Lafia, told Daily Trust on Sunday that, “We grew up together with the new acting IGP Adamu Mohammed in Kofar Kaura just behind the emir’s palace in Lafia. After his NYSC, he taught for two year before he joined the police and graduated as ASP. His first posting was in the South East. I once visited him and saw that he was well respected as an honest young police officer.”

Many youths in Lafia took to the streets chanting, “Baban marayu ya zama IG” (the father of orphans has become the IG).

The Chief Imam of Lafia, Sheikh Dalhatu, who visited the family, prayed for the acting IGP to succeed despite the numerous security challenges bedevilling the country.
