A former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Muhammad Lawal Uwais, and the Secretary General of Anglican Communion Worldwide, Archbishop Akins Josiah Idowu-Fearon and three other personalities have won the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation Meritorious Award in recognition of their contributions to peace and service to the nation.

Other recipients are the Imam of Nghar village, Barkin Ladi LGA in Plateau state, Alhaji Abdullahi Abubakar; a Clinical Pharmacologist from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Dr Lateef Taiwo Sheikh; and the paramount traditional ruler of Marwa Chiefdom in Kaduna state, Dr Tagwai Sambo.

Justice Uwais won the award of Excellence in Public Service and Administration of Justice, while Archbishop Idowu-Fearon won Excellence in the Promotion of Religious Tolerance and Peace Building, Imam Abubakar clinched the award of Excellence in Service to Humanity and True Representation of Message of Love, just as Dr Taiwo Sheikh got Excellence in Promotion of Healthcare Development while the royal father, Dr. Sambo was presented with the award of Excellence in Public Administration and Community Relation.

Presenting the award during  a Special Dinner organized by the foundation in Kaduna, Chairman of the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, Justice Mamman Nasir, said the award is one of the areas the foundation considered important to promote selfless service to humanity,  leadership and good governance in the north and the country at large.

“It is our prayers that the award becomes the tool to challenge our leaders and citizens alike to increase their commitment to excellence and selflessness to become adept on the management of high achievement motivation as the hallmark of good governance,” he said.

Earlier in his remark, the Chairman of the award selection committee, and Yariman Zazzau,  Alhaji Muhammad Munir Ja’afaru, said the Sir Ahmadu Bello Meritorious Award is to provide the encouragement  and motivation to  “our people to achieve through excellence in human endeavour and service to the country.

“We must encourage our people to serve diligently and build bridges to secure our region and Nigeria to develop our economy and our people.”
