2019: PDP reports Amina Zakari, INEC, security agencies to EU

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reported a National Commissioner Amina Zakari, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the security agencies to the European Union ahead of the February 16 and March 2, elections.

The PDP has consistently called for Zakari’s removal from INEC following her recent appointment as Chairperson of the Presidential Election Result Collation Centre Committee claiming she is a niece to candidate of the APC, President Muhammadu Buhari and cannot be fair to other candidates.

Addressing the European Union Election Observation Mission in Nigeria 2019, Friday in Abuja, the Spokesman of the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan said that the mistake PDP made was to have allowed the All Progressives Congress (APC) that “has no business in governance” to take over government.

“Amina Zakari should not be found anywhere near the process. We have made our position known to INEC because there will be a direct conflict of interest.

Mr. President has refused to assent to the electoral amendment bill. We are convinced that the President was never prepared for free and fair election.

“The PDP as a party does not believe in violence, but would like the Presidency and INEC to conduct free and fair election, outside of this, we will not agree,” the PDP said.

Earlier, the Deputy Chief Observer of European Union Election Observation Mission in Nigeria 2019, Hannah Roberts said the Chief Observer would be coming to Nigeria to observe the elections.

“We can’t control anything. Our mandate is to observe and make recommendations and issue statement, particularly after the elections in order to make future elections better,” she said.

“We will of course, have discussions with a wide range of people, contenders and stakeholders. We have observers as we have in the past spread around the country in different parts so that they can monitor the reality on ground,” she said.
