Tijaniyyah students lament challenges in tertiary institutions

The International Organisation of Tijaniyyah Brotherhood (IOTB) and the Tijaniyyah Muslim Students Association of Nigeria (TIMSAN) have lamented challenges facing the practice of Tijaniyyah activities in several tertiary institutions.

The group, at its annual conference in Abuja, said the challenges range from denial of mosque use for its activities to outright physical confrontation by some fellow Muslims.

TIMSAN lamented that such actions infringe on the rights of citizens to worship and freedom of association as enshrined in the country’s constitution.

The meeting commended the stance of management of some of the institutions and urged Tijaniyyah students to be peaceful and communicate all challenges to school management.

Earlier, the National Chairman of IOTB, Prof. Abdullahi El-Okene called on Tijaniyyah adherents to maintain high moral standards and dignity at all times.

The conference was attended by students from 77 tertiary institutions across the country, Shaykhatu Umuhani Shaykh Ibrahim Inyas, Ambassadors of Iran and Algeria as well as leaders of Fityanul Islam.

The event also featured free medical service delivery to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Abuja and presentations on entrepreneurship to enhance the capacities of youth for self-employments on a sustainable basis.
