One of the village heads who pleaded for anonymity due to security reasons confirmed to Daily Trust that all the victims were men.

He explained that two of the victims killed were from Kwasakwasa village while the other three people were resident of Sabon Layi and were returning from a wedding in company of local vigilantes when they were ambushed by the bandits.

“We lost five people that were shot by the bandits who came on motorcycles into the village.  I was at a nearby village called Raya Dan Auta when my people called me to help inform the security.

“But before the arrival of the police, the bandits already killed five people and injured about seven others. The injured were shot on the leg, some at the back while others were hit on their wrists,” he said.

The bandits were also said to have burnt a Golf Two vehicle and also took away five motorcycles with them into the bush.

Kaduna Police Command Spokesman, DSP Yakubu Sabo, confirmed the attack but said only three people were killed.

He said the command is doing everything possible to ensure that the bandits are arrested even though he said there is indication that the attackers were from Zamfara state axis.

He said the victims were confirmed dead at Funtua General Hospital after they were rushed there by the police and vigilantes.
