The police in Benue state have arrested a 21-year-old man with 26 different types of mobile phones in Otukpo local government area of the state.
The suspect, Godwin Raphael, was also apprehended with a locally made pistol and substances suspected to be Indian hemp among other items.
Spokesman for the state’s Police Command, DSP Moses Yamu, told our correspondent on Thursday by telephone that the suspect was arrested on Christmas Day around 11:00pm following credible intelligence tip-off.
Yamu said the suspect and others now at large specialised in robbing people of their handsets at gun point in Otukpo and its environ.
He added that six wraps of Indian hemp, four card of tramadol. 26 handsets of different make of mobile phones, three power bank, one LCD television and one locally made pistol with three live cartridges were recovered from the 21-year-old armed robbery suspect.
Similarly, the police spokesman disclosed that on December 26, 2018, four suspected armed robbers were arrested by the police in Ado local government area.
He listed the names of the suspects to include; Moses Abah, Monday Igbo, Godwin Ochigbo and Friday Owuche.
Yamu said the suspects were intercepted in a Toyota Corolla car at about midnight, adding that upon search, a locally made Baretta pistol and one live cartridge were recovered from the suspects.
