How to tackle the resurgence of Boko Haram attacks particularly in Borno state, among others, formed the major talking point at an emergency extraordinary security meeting being convened in Maiduguri, at the instance of the state governor, Kashim Shettima.
The meeting was summoned after Boko Haram insurgents captured no fewer than seven communities between Baga and Monguno in the Northern Borno senatorial district in the last one week.
At the end of the one-day meeting, which newsmen were barred from covering, a delegation is expected to be raised to deliver the meeting’s resolutions to President Muhammadu Buhari, according to the programme schedule sighted by our reporter.
Representatives of all the security agencies, the civilian JTF, hunters and the vigilantes are expected to make separate presentations on counter-insurgency efforts at the meeting which was ongoing as at the time of filing this report, our correspondent learnt.
The Shehu of Borno, representative of Borno Elders, the three senators from the state and the Speaker of the state House of Assembly as well as representatives of Baga, Kala-Balge and Maiduguri Metropolitan councils are also expected to make brief comments and offer recommendations.
Borno State House of Assembly members from Northern Borno were also billed to briefly comment as the chairmen of the affected local government areas and commissioners would make clarifications.
Others expected to voice their opinions at the meeting include the Chief Imam of Maiduguri, JNI, CAN, University of Maiduguri, Nigerian Legion, National Council of Women Societies, NLC, NUJ, NBA, NURTW, NARTO, Keke Napep Association, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, representatives of Monday Market, and Fish Dekker’s Association of Baga Road Motor Park etc.
