UPDATED: APC appoints Dangote, Otedola members of Buhari’s campaign committee

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed Alhaji Aliko Dangote and Mr. Femi Otedola as members of its Presidential Campaign Council for the 2019 elections.

Presidential spokesperson, Femi Adesina disclosed this in a statement on Friday.

The duo are joined by Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Ahmed Lawan (Senate Leader), Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila (Leader of the House) and APC Party National Chairman Comrade Adams Oshiomole in the special advisory committee to President Muhammadu Buhari.

UPDATED: DANGOTE NOT MEMBER OF APC CAMPAIGN COUNCIL

Aliko Dangote, born 10 April 1957, is a Nigerian business magnate, investor, and owner of the Dangote Group, which has interests in commodities in Nigeria and other African countries.

As of March 2018, he had an estimated net worth of US$14.1 billion.

Dangote is ranked by Forbes magazine as the 100th-richest person in the world and the richest in Africa and peaked on the list as the 23rd-richest person in the world in 2014.

He surpassed Saudi-Ethiopian billionaire Mohammed Hussein Al Amoudi in 2013 by over $2.6 billion to become the world’s richest person of African descent.

On the other hand, Femi Otedola, born November 4, 1962, is a Nigerian businessman, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and chairman of Forte Oil PLC, an importer of fuel products.

Otedola is also the founder of Zenon Petroleum and Gas Ltd, and the owner of a number of other businesses across shipping, real estate and finance.

He has recently invested in power generation as part of the liberalisation of the sector in Nigeria.

The spokesman of Dangote Group, Anthony Chiejina, did not answer phone calls from one of our reporters on Friday. He is also yet to respond to message sent to him, seeking for the response of Alhaji Aliko Dangote.

Similarly, efforts to get response from Otedola proved abortive as none of his media aides was available for comment on the issue. Otedola was said to be holidaying in Malaysia, Daily Trust learnt.

President Buhari will be contending with a former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the 2019 presidential election in the country.
