The police have arrested a 15 -year old girl for allegedly stealing two children from the same parent at Umuezeala in Ehime Nbano local government area of Imo state.
The state Police Commissioner, Dasuki Galadanchi, said the teenager, identified as Precious Ihiado, was sent by her mother to steal the children in order for them to register her for the West African Extermination Council (WAEC).
While one of the children has been recovered, the second child is still with the traffickers.
Speaking while parading the suspect at the State Police Command in Owerri, Galadanchi expressed dismay at the rate of teenagers’ involvement in crime.
He wondered why a mother would send her 15 -year old child to go and steal children for child trafficking before she can be registered for WAEC.
Galadanchi said the suspect and those who bought one of the children from her, confessed to the crime.
The father of the children, Anoyechukwu Nwoke, could not hide his joy as he praised the police for restoring their hope.
He appealed to the police to redouble their efforts to recover the second baby still in the hands of the traffickers.
