FCTA raids markets for unwholesome fish, meat

The FCT Administration has raided sellers of fish, meat and other food items within the territory with a view to destroying unwholesome foods.

The FCT Agriculture and Rural Development Secretary, Mr. Stanley Nzekwe, stated that the raids which saw the arrest of several culprits, had helped to reduce the rate of sale of unwholesome fish in the territory.

Nzekwe, who spoke during the end of year briefing on the activities of the secretariat at the weekend,  explained that the move would ensure that unscrupulous  fish merchants did not take undue advantage  of unsuspecting Abuja residents by  flooding the markets with unwholesome stocks especially during this festival season.

He added that the confiscated stocks of fish, beans, maize amounting to several millions of naira, preserved with chemicals and insecticides were destroyed,  and the culprits were also handed over to security agencies for prosecution.

The secretary, however, said the secretariat had restocked the Jabi Lake with over 2,000 assorted fingerlings, while the Children’s  Park reservoir  had  1,000 fingerlings.
