2019: Governor, other candidates sign peace accord

Candidates for Bauchi State 2019 governorship election have signed a peace accord for a peaceful conduct of the polls in the state.

Candidates of All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and People Redemption Party (PRP), among others, attended the event, which took place at the Bauchi office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Friday.

The signing was facilitated by Interagency Consultative Committee onElection Security (ICCES).

In an address, the Vice Chancellor, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, Professor Saminu Abdulrahman reminded politicians that the essence of democracy is to provide choices for citizens to elect the best candidates.

The head of INEC Election and Party Monitoring Unit in the Bauchi State, Ahmed Alhaji Waziri, said the essence of the pact was to ensure the conduct of peaceful campaigns and elections.

Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sanusi N. Lemu,  represented by DCP Adamu Alhaji Aliyu, called on the candidates and their supporters to shun violence, and hate speech.
