5,000 housing units will be constructed for the less privileged in Bauchi State by a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Africa Nation Development Programme (ANDP).
The houses will be built across 10 local government areas across the state in two years.
The Bauchi State government has provided plots of land for the project.
Speaking, the Director General of ANDP, Samson O. Omojuyigbe, said that the project is a full package conceived and implemented by the ANDP.
The Director General, who was represented by Babatunde Kuye, said that the ANDP is providing support to governments in Africa, including Nigeria.
“We have taken it upon ourselves to go beyond providing relief materials to providing shelter, thereby giving hope and succour to the less privileged and the vulnerable persons in our society.
“We believe that most of the crises and agitations in the land would be reduced or possibly come to an end if every Nigerian has hope for his or her tomorrow,” he said.
According to him, the project is being undertaken in Cross River, Kwara, Ebonyi, Benue, Osun and Bauchi states, adding that more states have also provided parcel of lands for the project.
Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar appreciated the ANDP for its interventions in various areas to alleviate the sufferings of the less privileged persons.
He said that his administration would continue to partner with all development partners carrying out various interventions in the state.
