Over 200 persons have been arrested and prosecuted by the police for unlawful destruction of billboards, inciting disturbance, possession of dangerous weapons and others since the commencement of 2019 election campaigns in Sokoto state.
Also, the state police command said it has put in place strategies to ensure peaceful coexistence before, during and after elections.
Sokoto state Commissioner of Police, Murtala Mani, disclosed this on Wednesday at the flag-off of Senatorial districts voter’s education and sensitization exercise organised by the National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Sokoto.
He berated politicians over involvement in violence and unrest in the state.
The commissioner, represented by the Deputy Commissioner in charge of Operations, Mr Ishola Babaita, warned that the wrath of the law can befall on anybody irrespective of status and political affiliation.
“The law is blind,” he pointed out and urged the public to assist the police in the overall processes.
He revealed that the police conduct periodic sensitization comprising all stakeholders aimed at ensuring contacts with key players.
The police also collaborate with sister agencies and community leaders towards enhancing security and peaceful coexistence in the state, he added.
