700 students to participate in Airforce inter-schools sports, quiz, debate competitions

About 700 students from 13 Nigeria Air Force (NAF) schools across the country have converged on Kaduna State to participate in the 10th NAF Inter-Schools Sports and Quiz/Debating competitions for the 2018/2019 academic session.

The competition is aimed at fostering cordial relationship within NAF secondary schools as well as to identify young sports talent amongst the youth.

Daily Trust gathered that the schools, being represented by 11 teams, will compete in different activities including debate, quiz, football, table tennis, athletics and basketball at the 4-day competition with the themes: “Building Future Leaders Through Sports’ and ‘Achieving Academic Excellence through Educative Conversations.”

Speaking at the event, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, represented by the Chief of Administration, Headquarters NAF, AVM Kingsley Lar said the enviable performances of Nigerian Air Force Primary and Secondary Schools in external examinations and the pressure for admission into the schools are clear pointers to the high standards attained so far.

According to the Air Chief, “A veritable means of sustaining this high standard and realizing the requirements for effective training and innovation as embedded in the NAF school vision is the incorporation of Sporting and Quiz/Debating programes into the school curriculum.

“This is in line with the 1st Key Driver of my Vision; which is ‘human capacity development through robust and result oriented training for enhanced professional performance’, furthermore, Sports and Quiz/Debating competitions provide opportunities for the overall development of the three learning domains; cognitive, psychomotor and affective.”
