5 die in auto accident on Sagamu-Abeokuta expressway

Five persons were confirmed dead yesterday while two others sustained serious injuries in an accident involving a Subaru car and a Honda bus at the Orile Imo area on the Sagamu-Abeokuta expressway.

Our correspondent learnt that the driver of the Honda bus lost control of the wheel, veered off his lane and collided with the Subaru car marked KTU 246 AT, inbound Abeokuta, killing four persons on the spot.

The Public Relations Officer, Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) in Ogun, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident in Abeokuta.

Akinbiyi noted that the accident was caused by excessive speeding by the driver of the Honda car, registration number EKY 365 FB.

“The accident happened about 7.15am. The Honda car, which was coming from Abeokuta, lost control, veered into the other lane and collided with the Subaru car going towards Abeokuta.

“Three persons were initially injured while four died instantly.

However, a post-crash report indicates that another of the injured victims has also died,” he said.
