FG to activate 3 modular refineries next year – Kachikwu

The minister of state for petroleum, Dr Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu has disclosed that the federal government will ensure that out of the 40 planned modular refineries 3 come on stream by end of 2019.

Kachikwu disclosed this in Calabar at the ongoing 3rd technical meeting of the National Council on Hydrocarbons (NCH) where oil experts and stakeholders are reviewing extent of implementation of resolutions and decisions reached at last year’s meeting in Akwa Ibom State. The NCH is the highest policy making body in the Nigeria’s oil and gas.

Speaking through the Permanent secretary in the ministry of petroleum resources, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan who declared the conference open, she said apart from the modular refineries, the ministry was also intervening in the Domes ic Liquified Petroleum Gas Penetraion Programme, where LPG has been identified as a viable source of stimulation for socioeconomic growth in Nigeria.

She said the ministry through the Department of Petroleum Resources has achieved improved LPG penetration with local consumption from 390,000mt to 470,000mt
