Magu to speak on corruption in London

The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, is to deliver a lecture on taming corruption in Nigeria in London tomorrow (Friday).

A statement by the organisers said Magu will deliver the lecture at the School of Business and Management, Centre for African Research, Queen Mary University, London.

Entitled “Nigeria: Taming Corruption, The Way forward for Economic Development”, the lecture will centre “on economic and financial crimes among public officials in Nigeria and indeed Africa and the danger of corruption to Africa’s development”, the statement said.

“One of the major problems facing growth and development in Africa today is corruption. Corruption has created large scale poverty as public money is concentrated in the hands of just a few people in Africa causing economic migration of Africans to the UK and Europe.

“Mr Magu will be joined by the Chair of the Public Accounts Committee in the British parliament, Meg Hillier MP and other international experts, financial watchers and economic advisers at this lecture”, the statement added.
