Two persons were fear dead as strange ailment allegedly hit communities in Uhunmwode local government area of Edo state.
Edo state Commissioner for Health, Dr. David Osifo, confirmed the outbreak of the yet to be identified ailment, saying team of experts have been sent to the affected area. He said they are suspecting yellow fever.
It was gathered that the areas allegedly affected by the ailment said to have claimed several lives, include Igieduma, Ehor and other neighbouring villages.
It was further gathered that two persons have allegedly died in Igieduma village as a result of the strange disease.
A source in the village who craved anonymity said the symptoms exhibited by the victims of the ailment include high fever, stomach pains, vomiting, nose-bleeding among other.
He said to avoid contracting the ailment, inhabitants of the villages are now avoiding shaking hands and close contact with each other.
Dr. Osifo, who confirmed the outbreak in a text message when contacted, dispelled fears that the ailment was either Lassa fever or Ebola.
He said that they are suspecting the ailment to be Yellow Fever, adding that his team of disease control experts are already on ground in the affected areas to contain the strange ailment.
“You are correct. We suspect Yellow Fever; two have been confirmed as Yellow Fever and negative for Lassa. My team of experts are right there now to contain it. Nothing to be panic about,” he said.
