The Senate on Thursday asked the police to immediately vacate the premises of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.
Senators said it was unfortunate that the police were still occupying the premises of the state assembly for more than 24 hours.
They said the action of the police was unconstitutional.
Daily Trust reports that men of the Nigerian police were on Wednesday drafted to seal the Akwa Ibom State Assembly complex, preventing lawmakers and legislative staff from gaining access into the premises.
But senators said the police could still provide security at the assembly complex without necessarily preventing lawmakers from entering the chamber and performing their constitutional functions.
