The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Enugu State, Emeka Ononamadu, has described as unprecedented the magnitude of violence that plagued parties’ primaries in the state. Ononamadu expressed the hope that such incidents would not repeat as the people vote in next year’s elections.
The REC spoke on Friday when he addressed members of Civil Society Organisations and Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) on INEC’s preparedness, review of primaries and display of Permanent Voters Register for the 2019 polls.
He said it was the collective responsibility of citizens to ensure that violence would not take place in the election and then turn to blame INEC.
The commissioner said total number of registered voters in the state is, 1, 978,547 adding that out of the national fresh registration of 14,551,482, the state registered 549,326.
