Few hours to the Nov. 17 by-election in Kwara State, the All Progressives Candidate (APC) Mr Raheem Olawuyi was at the wee hours of Thursday allegedly attacked by unknown gunmen at Idofin Igbana.
Olawuyi was on a campaign tour of Oke-ero Local Government and had departed Ekan ward for Idofin Igbana.
The campaign team according to a statement by media aide of Olawuyi, Femi David said to have been led by some members of the APC state executives and other party stalwarts.
The said the assailants was said to have laid siege at the entrance of the town along the busy road before shooting their target at close range.
The back screen of the Lexus Jeep was badly shattered following the impact of the attack.
The Lexus jeep conveying the candidate of the APC, the driver and two other stalwarts of the party, were ssid to have escaped unhurt.
They stated that such was barbaric and crude, noting that the perpetrators should face the full weight of the law when apprehended.
The community vigilante immediately swung into action by mobilising to locate the perpetrators while combing the areas in their bid to apprehend the assailants.
Olawuyi while addressing his supporters at Idofin Igbana afterward at about 2:00 a.m urged them to remained calm and steadfast.
According to him, such is one of the ultimate prize to pay for freedom and that they should remained undaunted and undeterred in their quest to free themselves from their slave master.
Chief Michael Olaoye, the Abadofin of Idofin Igbana led the team to the palace of Oni dofin of Igbana, Oba Samuel Ifabiyi to intimate him of the unfolding incident.
Olaoye said that the community would not rest until the perpetrators were apprehended. According to him, this is the first time such will be happening in our domain as far as electioneering is concern.
In his reaction, Oba Ifabiyi expressed shock and dismay over the heinous crime, stressing that the perpetrator would be exposed in due course to pay for their crime.
He advised the candidate not to allow the incidence to dampen his morale, while urging him to remain focus on his mission and ambition.
The statement added that effort by the campaign spokesperson, Femi David to immediately alert the Area commander and the Divisional Police Officer, Omu-Aran on the incident on phone proved abortive as non of their lines want through.
