A Director General, Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution, Professor Oshita Osung Oshita has emphasized the need for more constitutional power to traditional rulers to enable them check excesses of insecurity in their domians.
Prof Osita stated this at a one-day high level Roundtable Dialogue organized by Konrad Adenauer Foundation themed Strategies for Traditional/Ethnic and Religious leaders to effectively promote peaceful co-existence and sustainable development in multi ethnic and multi religious communities in Nigeria.
He said in the pre-colonial era, intra and inter-communal relations were governed by traditional rulers, adding that they were good in promoting peace building and conflict prevention among their subjects.
