The House of Representatives has said Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, must answer questions over the “illegal approval and disbursement of the N5.8 billion” to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
Chairman of the House Committee on NEMA, Ali Isa (PDP, Gombe) disclosed this on Tuesday while briefing newsmen at the House of Representatives in Abuja.
Ali insisted that Osinbajo not only approved the release of the money from the Consolidated Revenue Fund and Eurobond, “which was illegal,” but also hat documentary evidences tendered before the committee showed indicated that the money was diverted.
“The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, released the money in his capacity as the Acting President and Chairman, NEMA Governing Board.
“In itself, the approval for the release of N5.8 billion from the Consolidated Revenue Fund and Eurobond was illegal.”
“Mind you, there is no record anywhere that this money was used for anything. No contract was awarded, no procurement, nothing. That is why the Vice President has questions to answer,” the lawmaker said.
He added: “If they said due process had been followed, let them release the documents and we will appeal to Nigerians.”
“There is nothing political about the investigation, its outcome and the House position. It is about the interests of Nigerians.”
