Senators, on Tuesday, adjourned their plenary session for not meeting the quorum to sit.
Less than 20 senators had converged on the Red Chamber for Tuesday’s sitting at about 10:50am, but immediately after they adopted their votes and proceedings for last Thursday, Minority Whip Phillip Aduda (PDP, FCT) raised a point of order.
Aduda said based on the Senate Order 10 (3), the Senate shall not sit if a quorum was not formed.
He said the Senate quorum was supposed to be 38, but that as at the time of the sitting, there were only about 10 senators on the floor.
He consequently moved that the sitting should be adjourned, adding that majority of the senators were outside Abuja for oversight function.
He also moved that senators be given up to next Tuesday to conclude the oversight functions.
Thus, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu seconded the motion, noting that the senators present were actually more than 10, but less than 20.
When Senate President Bukola Saraki put the question for the adjournment till next Tuesday, all the senators present voted in its favour.
